A brief history

Picture

Early beginnings

The club originated in 1948 with young persons sailing clinker dinghies from Manly Boatshed. The original race courses were within the Fairlight to North Harbour area.
The sailors soon stored their dinghies at Steve Davis' Boatshed where races were conducted under the guidance of Steve Davis, Tom Flower, and Harry Newton Scott, until they were able to build their own boatshed at the current site on the beach at the bottom of Gourlay Avenue, Balgowlah.

The skiffs

Races were conducted Sunday morning for dinghies.  Early classes included 12ft skiffs, VJs, Moths, and 14ft skiffs. There have been several notable champions including Peter Moor, Michael Polkinghorne and Lawson Abbott.

Recent years

In later years, the dinghy classes have been replaced by small to medium yachts. Handicap races are conducted on Sydney Harbour throughout Summer and Winter.
